primier (adj): first in time; earliest; oldest.

Joined at the Hip is the first, earliest to adopt and oldest ATS® troupe in Austin, TX. We suspect we are the first in Texas. We are certified in ATS® through Carolena Nerricio and FatChanceBellyDance®. We have been since 2009. We have been dancing together since 2006 in some form or another. We don't boast to be The Best at ATS®, but we do proudly say we work together, transforming what each individual offers into group improv tribal style bellydance. We think it is a thing of beauty and we love to share. The smiles and lighter hearts our performances bring are magical!

We foster respect, awareness, acceptance, enjoyment, confidence, sufficiency, being comfortable with ourselves and our bodies through our individual and communal bellydance experiences. We love FatChanceBellyDance®'s beautiful spiral of "elegance, femininity, well-being, cooperation, spirit, communication, joy, compassion, inner intelligence, friendship :: dancing ::"  We embody this each time we come together to dance. It is what we invoke when we do the blessing, or puja, before every dance opportunity.

Our foundation and primary format is American Tribal Style® (ATS®) bellydance. It is the basic form underneath all group improv tribal style bellydance. We are constantly deepening our understanding and practice of the amazing format created by Carolena Nerricio and FatChanceBellyDance® (FCBD®).

Our inspiration takes on many forms. We enjoy watching the different forms of our art. We bring information to each other through our outside interests. We inspire each other through our individual paths. We enjoy FatChanceBellyDance®, Devyani Dance Company, Awalim, Red Lotus, Manhattan Tribal, Heavy Hips, BlackSheepBellyDance, Gypsy Caravan and countless others. Rachel Brice, Zafira, Zanbaka and April Rose hold special places in our hearts as well. Our family and friends who drum for us also inspire us with laughter, joy, and happiness.

In the Joined at the Hip news, in early February 2009, Barbara and Andrea, enjoyed their 3-hour private lessons with Megha of Devyani Dance in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Megha was is an absolute delight and highly inspirational! We went to the King Tut exhibit while we were in Dallas and it was amazing. Highly recommended!

Andrea received her first General Skills (GS) Certification with Carolena Nericcio and FatChanceBellyDance® on 02/20/2009 in San Francisco, CA. Andrea participated in the Teacher Training 1 and Teacher Training 2 classes and attended Sandi's Level 1 & Level 2 classes while in San Francisco. She re-certified through the ATS®-GS taught by Carolena and Megha Gavin, director of Devyani Dance and partner of FCBD®, in Bloomington, IN with Barbara on 03/07/2010.

Barbara received her General Skills (GS) Certification with Carolena Nericcio, director of FatChanceBellyDance®, and Megha Gavin, director of Devyani Dance, on 03/07/2010 in Bloomington, IN.

In October 2012, we briefly enjoyed the company of our student troupe, CuppaTea. Members included Angela, Valerie, Sahhira, and Kathryn. Due to Natalie's move (see below), CuppaTea dissolved like sugar in Southern sweet tea. We miss them! We also miss Brendan's fabulous cello.

In February 2013, Natalie left our little ATS® nest to spread her wings in West Texas. There are ATS® classes offered out in the lovely Texas desert in Midland, TX. Please look her up

In May 2013, Sahhira, of The Typsy Gypsys and Gypsy Witch Productions fame formally joined the dancers and Gypsy Bob joined our drumming group.

Kathryn, from gorgeous Eugene, OR, also joined our troupe and is back from her leave of absence. She has graduated with her double Master's degree and she married recently.

In September 2015, all of the dancers in the troupe took ATS® CEU workshops from Wendy Allen & Sandi Allen of FatChanceBellyDance® fame, in San Antonio, TX. 3 2-hour CEU classes were attended by Barbara, Kathryn, Jeanie & Andrea. Natalie attended Saturday's workshops before heading back to West Texas to spread more ATS® joy.

In September 2016, we welcomed two new members of Joined at the Hip, Paula and Cynthia! Welcome, sisters!

In September 2017, we welcomed Sher Rein as our newest member!

In October 2017, our director and instructor, Andrea Brune Wagnon, retired for personal health and family reasons. Joined at the Hip disbanded as a result.
